AISI names AK Steel CEO next chairman

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has elected AK Steel chief executive Roger Newport as its chairman through May 2020.

Newport currently serves as a member of the AISI board of directors and on the executive committee of the World Steel Association.

Newport replaces Nucor chief executive John Ferriola, who will assume a vice chairman role. Ferriola was elected AISI chairman in May 2016.

AISI also elected the following vice chairmen: ArcelorMittal USA chief executive John Brett, TimkenSteel chief executive Tim Timken and Tenaris vice chairman Guillermo Vogel.

Washington, DC-based AISI is comprised of 21 member companies, including North American integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and about 120 associate members.
