Liberty Steel USA named Revansidha "Rohit" Gulve general manager of its Georgetown, South Carolina, wire rod mill.

Gulve joins Liberty from Gerdau's former wire rod operation in Beaumont, Texas. Gerdau sold the mill to Optimus Steel in January.

Liberty USA, a subsidiary of UK-based Liberty House, acquired the Georgetown mill from ArcelorMittal in December 2017 as part of its plan to develop 5mn t of steel production capacity in the US.

The mill has an electric arc furnace with an annual capacity of 540,000t and a rod mill with an annual capacity of 680,000t. It is expected to consume around 30,000 gross tons/month of ferrous scrap.

Gulve will join more than 100 recruits on site getting the previously-idled melt shop, casters and rolling facilities ready for recommissioning. Liberty did not provide a specific date for the restart.
