Liberty Steel Newport upgrades strip mill
Liberty will have an additional week of production downtime at its hot-rolled coil (HRC) mill in Newport, South Wales, in September, the company told Argus today.
During the scheduled two-week shutdown at the end of August, Liberty will install a new descaling system for its roughing and rolling mill, and will also overhaul the automation system, a spokesman said.
Following this work, it will have a week of testing, after which "normal production" will resume, the spokesman added.
The work is being carried out to increase the surface quality of Newport's HRC. One buyer said he was happy to wait for delivery from the mill until after the work is completed.
