Operations were scheduled to resume today at the 12.9mn t/yr Curragh coking coal mine in Australia's Queensland state after it was closed for investigations into the cause of a fatal accident at the mine.

Operations at Curragh, owned by US-based Coronado Global Resources, have been suspended since 12 January after an accident killed an employee of mine contractor Thiess during tyre replacement activity in the main workshop. The Queensland Mines Inspectorate issued a directive to suspend on all relevant tyre and wheel rim fitting activity until these activities can restart safely.

Coronado is carrying out a full investigation to study the cause of the incident and continues to support the continuing external investigations.

"Pulverised coal injection is expected to recover its production soonest among other coking coal products, which includes the semi-hard coking coal and semi-soft coking coal," an Australia-based trader said.
