Steel service center Kloeckner Metals will build a plate processing facility on the campus of Nucor's new 1.2mn short ton/yr plate mill in Brandenburg, Kentucky.

Kloeckner expects to be able to profit from planned renewable energy and infrastructure investments by the US government with the facility. The plant will also target the off-highway equipment and industrial machinery and equipment industries. The plate processing plant will have multiple burning centers, beveling, drilling, machining, parts blasting and fabrication capabilities. Kloeckner expects it to start operations in the third quarter of 2023.

The company expects the new electric arc furnace plate mill to be completed by the end of this year. Nucor is targeting the offshore wind farm market with the plate mill.
