Texas' Brownsville port posts steel slab record

The Port of Brownsville in southern Texas moved a record high volume of steel slabs in December.

On 27 December, 74,000 metric tonnes of steel slabs arrived aboard the MV Ultra Ocelot carrier, with the slabs originating in Sepetiba, Brazil.

The cargo is destined for Ternium's 4.4mn t/yr rerolling mill in Pesquería, Mexico, which it began ramping up in 2022.

Brownsville had imported a previous record 67,000t of steel slabs in October, also destined for Pesquería.
