Indian state-controlled refiner Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) will commission three LPG bottling plants in the second half of this year, despite the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the firm says. The country's LPG demand fell to 2.3mn t in August from 2.4mn t a year earlier, data from state-run refiner IOC show, because residential consumers stocked up during the initial phase of India's six-month lockdown, BPCL's former refining director R Ramachandran says. The 930mn rupee ($13mn) Bokaro LPG bottling plant in Jharkhand state, east India, has a cylinder filling capacity of 60,000 t/yr and is due to start up in December. The plant will receive LPG from Haldia port, where IOC runs a 150,000 b/d refinery. BPCL is also opening a 45,000 t/yr bottling plant in Madurai in Tamil Nadu, south India, this month. And it commissioned the Balangir bottling facility in east India's Odisha state in July. BPCL will have 55 LPG bottling plants with a combined capacity of 4.56mn t/yr by the end of this year. India has 195 bottling plants.
