Toyota expects to cut production by 40,000-50,000 vehicles in North America in January as it continues to struggle with supply shortages.
While many automakers have reported few supply-related closures in recent months, the Toyota announcement shows that the industry still is recovering from global supply chain hiccups and semiconductor chip shortages.
The lack of semiconductors and other materials has led Toyota to announce cuts of 305,000-385,000 vehicles in North America since August.
The North American automotive market could lose as many as 3.5mn vehicles in 2021 from supply chain shortages, according to AutoForecast Solutions. Most of the cuts are centered around a lack of semiconductors.
