Steelmaker ArcelorMittal sold its first two batches of low-carbon flat steel to a logistics company and home building supplier in Brazil.

The steel holds an Xcarb green steel certificate, ensuring it was made using a low carbon emission process, ArcelorMittal said.

One of the batches came from its southeastern Espirito Santo plant in Brazil, while the other came from the southern Santa Catarina plant. They were sold to logistics company Aguia Sistemas and a homebuilding supply company Espaco Smart.

There were no further details on the value or the volume of those batches.

ArcelorMittal's operations in Brazil shipped 4.483mn metric tonnes (t) of flat steel in the third quarter of 2023, down by 10pc compared to the same period in 2024.

XCarb aims to bring together all of ArcelorMittal's reduced, low and zero-carbon products and steelmaking activities, the company said, as it focus on "achieving progress towards carbon neutral steel."
