Australian joint-venture rare earth developer Viridion has delivered 3kg of recycled rare earth oxides to Lab Fab, Brazil's only rare earth magnet producer, as it progresses development of a Brazilian recycling plant.

Viridion — jointly owned by Australian developers Ionic Rare Earths and Viridis — sent 1kg of neodymium oxide, 1kg of praseodymium oxide, 0.5kg of terbium oxide, and 0.5kg of dysprosium oxide to Lab Fab, Viridis told Argus on 28 May. The delivery included heavy and light rare earth oxides produced at Ionic's magnet recycling plant in Belfast, UK, the companies told investors on 27 May.

Viridion extracted the oxides from permanent magnets in old Brazilian magnetic resonance imaging machines and wind turbine generators, Viridis told investors on 27 May.

Brazilian investment agency Invest Minas — which supports development projects around Minas Gerais where Lab Fab is based — expressed support for Viridion's plans to develop a magnet recycling plant in Brazil using Ionic's technology in December 2024.

Ionic has been recycling rare earth magnets in Belfast since 2024, processing 10 t/yr of magnets. The company signed a non-binding agreement with South Korean manufacturer DNA Link. DNA Link will provide Ionic with swarf to be recycled for the production of rare earth oxides at its Belfast facility, while Ionic will provide rare earth oxide feedstock to DNA Link's planned 1,000 t/yr neodymium-iron boron plant in Yesan, South Korea.
