The US winter wheat plating neared its end during the week ended 23 November, while wheat conditions improved from the prior week.

Winter wheat planting is nearly finished at 97pc done, according to the US Department of Agriculture's final crop progress and conditions report of 2025, in line with both a year earlier and the five-year average for the period.

Texas, at 93pc complete, has the most area left to be planted among key growing states, though that mark is in line with its five-year average. North Dakota and Nebraska trail their averages by 2 and 1 percentage point, respectively, as both states have historically completed planting by the last week of November. Oklahoma sits at 97pc planted, 1 point ahead of its five-year average.

The rate of good-to-excellent winter wheat improved by 3 points from last week to 48pc good-to-excellent. Montana's crop improved by 4 points, though Wyoming's took a step back by 8 points, with both states sitting at 10pc good-to-excellent.

Worse than average crops in Montana, Wyoming, Texas and Oklahoma have been offset by notably above-average crops in Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska, which exceed their five-year averages by 24, 21 and 11 points, respectively.

Emergence stood at 87pc, 2 points behind last year and the five-year average. North Dakota is just 72pc emerged, well behind its five-year average of 100pc emergence.

Soybean, corn harvests

The US soybean harvest is nearly complete, with just a few key soybean-growing states not yet at 100pc harvested.

Missouri's soybean harvest reached 94pc completion, slightly behind Nebraska's at 95pc harvested. Both Michigan and Kansas reached 97pc harvested during the latest week, while all other key soybean producers have completed their harvests.

Nebraska is the furthest behind, as the state has typically finished its harvest by this point.

The US corn harvest has been slightly slower, at 96pc harvested nationally, 1 point behind the five-year average. Corn harvesting has been slowed by a below-average harvest pace in Kansas, Nebraska, and the Dakotas, all of which lag their five-year averages by between 4 and 7 points.

Soybean and corn crop conditions were not recorded during the week.
