The port of Corpus Christi in Texas has seen an uptick in crude exports since the Mideast war started on 28 February, causing supply shortages out of the region.

Crude exports out of Corpus Christi have increased by about 200,000 b/d because of the war, spokesman for the port Omar Garcia said Monday at an event during the CERAWeek by S&P Global conference in Houston, Texas. The port generally averages 2.4mn-2.5mn b/d of crude exports.

The top five export destinations for crude from Corpus Christi include the Netherlands, South Korea, Taiwan, India and the UK.

If the war continues, trading partners in Europe will likely need more crude and LNG from the Texas Gulf coast to meet demand, Garcia said.

Mideast Gulf oil producers over the weekend urged the US to address the disruption to oil flows through the strait of Hormuz quickly.

"When Hormuz is squeezed, the pressure is immediately felt around the world," Abu Dhabi's state-owned Adnoc chief executive Sultan al-Jaber said in a pre-recorded video address to CERAWeek. "In just three weeks, the price of oil has risen by 50pc."

Al-Jaber was scheduled to speak in person at CERAWeek but instead traveled to Washington to "hold a series of senior-level bilateral meetings", Adnoc said.

Al-Jaber's comments follow a week of the most extensive damage yet to energy infrastructure across the Mideast Gulf.
