Brazilian state-controlled oil and gas company Petrobras launched an open call for long-term biomethane and guarantees of origin (CGOBs) supply, starting in 2027, with a minimum offer of 20,000 m³/d.
The call asks for non-binding proposals, with contracts up to 10 years for biomethane supply and up to two years for CGOBs. Proposals may be submitted between 14-22 December, with negotiations expected to begin in February. Supply must begin between April 2027-December 2029.
In 2025, Petrobras launched its first biomethane open call, but negotiations were not pursued after delays to ANP regulations regarding the biomethane mandate.
Petrobras aims to replace part of its natural gas demand as well as fulfill its individual decarbonization targets established by oil and gas regulator ANP.
The new call introduces changes from Petrobras' 2025 biomethane call. CGOB proposals may now be submitted either with or without an associated Cbio decarbonization credit. Unlike the previous call, which specified delivery points locations and delivery form, the current process requires bidders to nominate a delivery point in their proposals, which Petrobras will evaluate. The pricing basis has also changed, with bids now required in R/m³ instead of R/MMBtu.
