Bahrain's 405,000 b/d Sitra refinery is currently operating at above 80pc of its capacity, and should ramp up to full capacity by the end of the month, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The facility suffered Iranian missile hits on 5 and 9 March, in the early weeks of the US-Iran war, forcing Bapco Energies to temporarily declare force majeure on its refining operations.

But operations did resume within weeks and have been ramping up ever since.

Bahrain's refinery production, excluding LPG, averaged just 73,000 b/d in May, according to latest data from the Joint Organisations Data Initiative (Jodi) down from 409,000 b/d in February, before the start of the war. By August, refinery output rose to 164,000 b/d.

Operations have ramped up to more than 80pc since, and are on course to return to its full 405,000 b/d capacity by the end of November, industry sources told Argus this week.

A company source separately confirmed that operations are now "almost at the design nameplate capacity," and would reach capacity by the end of the month.

A spokesperson at Bapco Energies did not disclose current operating rates, and said only that the company "continues to work towards restoring its operations to full capacity."
