BassGas output rises with Yolla wells

Production has started at the Yolla-5 development well in the BassGas joint venture offshore southeast Australia's Victoria state.

The start-up is expected to boost total BassGas production to about 64TJ/d (1.71mn m³/d), Australian independent AWE said. Average gross output for BassGas was about 36TJ/d during April-June, but had been boosted to 57TJ/d in late July with the start-up of the Yolla-6 development well.

The two wells are part of an expansion at BassGas known as the stage two midlife enhancement project. The development drilling phase of project has effectively been completed with the jack-up drilling rig being demobilised, AWE said. The project will now focus on the tie-in and commissioning of the gas compression and condensate pumping modules on the Yolla platform, which is expected to take 18 months. AWE then plans to accelerate the development of the nearby Trefoil gas and condensate resource to supply the Yolla infrastructure after 2020.

AWE owns 35pc of the BassGas joint venture, which is operated by Australian utility and upstream firm Origin Energy with a 42.5pc stake. BassGas provides gas to the east coast of Australia through the Victorian Declared Transmission System. India's state-controlled Hindustan Petroleum and Japanese trading house Toyota Tsusho each own 11.25pc.
