Pennsylvania gas utility seeks rate increase

  • Märkte: Natural gas
  • 19.01.17

UGI Penn Natural Gas today filed a request with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to increase its base rates by $21.7mn/yr.

The company said the rate increase would fund ongoing improvements to its infrastructure as well as new energy efficiency programs.

UGI Penn Natural Gas' last rate case was in 2009, after which it made "significant" system improvements, the company said. The company plans to invest $168mn in capital projects over the next two years.

The increase, if approved, would increase the delivery charges on customers' natural gas bills. That charge primarily funds gas distribution system maintenance.

The utility has requested that the new rates take effect on 20 March. But the PUC typically suspends the effective date for rate proceedings to allow for investigation and public hearings, possibly delaying implementation until late October.

UGI Penn Natural Gas has more than 166,000 customers in 13 counties throughout Pennsylvania.
