Saudi Arabian fertilizer producer Ma'aden forecasts no short-term effects on its phosphates operations following the 14 September drone attacks at the country's largest crude processing plant in Abqaiq.

Ma'aden's phosphates production and shipments will remain unaffected this week, despite the attacks in the country, a company source said.

The producer operates a 3mn t/yr DAP/MAP processing plant at the eastern port of Ras Al-Khair, around 260km north of Abqaiq. Ma'aden sources phosphate rock for the plant from the Al Jalamid deposit, in the north of the country, about 140km southeast of the city of Turaif.

Ma'aden also holds a 60pc stake in the Wa'ad Al-Shamal (MWSPC) plant, which has annual capacity of 3mn t of DAP/MAP/NPK, alongside Saudi marketer Sabic and US producer Mosaic. Production and loadings from MWSPC will likely also remain unaffected.

Ma'aden plans to ship 120,000t of DAP to India, two 26,000t DAP cargoes to Bangladesh, 44,000t of MAP 11-52 to Brazil, 25,000t of MAP 11-52 to South Africa and 25,000t of DAP to east African buyers this month.
