Malaysian state-owned Petronas' second floating LNG facility, the 1.5mn t/yr Petronas Floating LNG (PFLNG) 2, has shipped its first cargo following the start of LNG production in mid-February.
The cargo was loaded on the 150,200m³ Seri Camar LNG tanker and shipped to a customer in Thailand on 24 March, Petronas said. The Seri Camar is expected to arrive at the Thai state-owned PTT-operated Mab Ta Phut LNG import terminal today, according to vessel tracking data. The firm had said last month that it was targeting to begin commercial operations at PFLNG 2 in mid-March. Petronas has a term supply agreement with PTT for 1.2mn t/yr, which started in 2017.
PFLNG 2 provides Petronas with another source of LNG production in addition to PFLNG 1, the 30mn t/yr Bintulu LNG project in Sarawak and Australia's 7.8mn t/yr Gladstone LNG project through a 27.5pc stake and equity offtake arrangements with the project partners.
Petronas is the only firm with two operational floating LNG facilities. It has been producing LNG from its first floating LNG facility, PFLNG 1, since 2016. Shell operates the 3.6mn t/yr Prelude floating LNG facility in the Browse basin offshore Western Australia, while shipping firm Golar operates the 1.2mn t/yr Kribi FLNG project in Cameroon.
