Brazilian natural gas production falls in Aug

Brazil's natural gas production fell in August, after consecutive records in the two previous months, according to preliminary data from oil and gas regulator ANP.

Total production reached 147.9mn m³/d of gas in August, a 4pc decrease from a month earlier and a 5.6pc rise from the same month in 2022.

Gas reinjections — when gas is pumped back into wells to enhance oil recovery or avoid flaring — amounted to 75.8mn m³/d, a 5.5pc decrease from July and an 8.9pc hike from the previous year.

There was 53mn m³/d of natural gas available to the market, a 2.5pc drop from the previous month and a 0.4pc drop from 2022.

Gas flaring dropped to 3.8mn m³/d, a 12pc decrease from July and a 14pc rise from last year.

Gas consumption on production platforms hit a new record at 16.1mn m³/d, up by 0.8pc from the previous month and by 11pc from August 2022.
