First LNG from the US' 18.1mn t/yr Golden Pass terminal is now targeted for the first half of 2025, project partner ExxonMobil said today.

This is a delay of a previous target for the terminal's 6mn t/yr Train 1 to start up in the second half of 2024. The terminal operator reaffirmed this target to Argus in May.

State-owned QatarEnergy — a shareholder in the project — gave a similar timeline in October last year, when it stated first LNG production is expected by the end of 2024.

The project is due to be mechanically complete by the end of 2024, ExxonMobil said today. Train 1 would come on line first, with the other two trains following successively, Golden Pass said in May.

The terminal is a joint venture between 70pc shareholder QatarEnergy and 30pc shareholder ExxonMobil, which will split offtake according to equity shares. The terminal has not publicly tied any offtake to long-term agreements with other firms.

ExxonMobil said it is targeting its LNG supply to grow to about 27mn t/yr by 2027. It is a shareholder in QatarEnergy's North Field East expansion, which ExxonMobil said will start up in 2026.
