Pakistan’s Jamshoro issues 100,00t coal tender

Pakistani state-owned utility Jamshoro Power (JPCL) is seeking 100,000t of thermal coal for its 660MW coal-fired power plant in Jamshoro via a tender released.

The coal should have minimum calorific value of NAR 5,500kcal/kg, total moisture capped at 23pc on an as received basis (ARB), ash content not exceeding 9pc on an air-dried basis (ADB), maximum total sulphur content of 0.75pc on ARB and volatile matter of 33-39pc on ADB.

All bids should be linked to the API 4 index as per Argus/McCloskey's Coal Price Index published on the last Friday before the bid closing date and depreciated from NAR 6,000kcal/kg to NAR 5,500 kcal/kg accordingly.

Delivery is scheduled within 30 days from when the bidder receives a notice to supply, while no date has been specified for bid submission.

Bidders must be a pre-qualified company or public/semi-public agency of Pakistan who were previously shortlisted and registered with JPCL. The bidders must also provide evidence of their eligibility as per the requirements of the procuring agency, and ineligible source countries include India and Israel.

JPCL has asked for delivered coal prices to be valued in Pakistani rupees per mn t (Rs/mn t) plus sales tax.

Pakistan typically imports coal for its coal-fired plants from South Africa and Indonesia. The country received 111,000t of coal from South Africa in June, with 64,000t from Indonesia and 55,000t from Tanzania, according to Kpler data.

Argus' assessment for South African NAR 5,500kcal/kg coal on fob Richards Bay basis stood at $92.08/t as of 28 June. Argus only assesses the GAR 4,200 kcal/kg coal market for geared Supramax cargoes. This grade was last assessed at $52.86/t fob Kalimantan on 28 June. Meanwhile, the GAR 5,000 kcal/kg market was last assessed at $71.41/t fob Kalimantan.
