Data-center construction and investments in solar projects will support US steel demand during the fourth quarter and 2026, Brazil-based steelmaker Gerdau said.

Gerdau also expects the steel spread to expand because of rising prices and steady scrap costs. Strong safeguard measures continue to support the US market, it said on Friday.

The US section 232 tariffs currently levy 50pc duties on imported steel and aluminum, which benefits the company's domestic production.

Preliminary anti-dumping determinations on rebar imports have also helped reduce import volumes and stabilize local supply, Gerdau said.

Gerdau's third-quarter revenue in North America rose by 11pc because of increasing sales in the US. Revenue from the region accounted for half of the R18bn ($3.2bn) in the quarter.

The company's North American operations include plants in Canada, Mexico and the US, the latest being the most robust. Gerdau produces special and long steel products in the region.

Gerdau's crude steel production across North America increased by 11.6pc on the year to 1.35mn metric tonnes (t).

Sales rose to 1.29mn t, up from 1.17mn t year-on-year. Downstream product sales rose by 47pc on the year to a record 76,000t in the third quarter.

The company's order backlog in North America is currently sitting at around 70 days, above the historical average of 60 days, it said.
