President Donald Trump on Friday said he is considering a possible, limited strike on Iran to pressure Tehran to make unspecified concessions.
The US has moved naval and air force assets to the region near Iran in recent days, despite Trump's insistence that he prefers a diplomatic outcome to the US demands for Tehran to curb its nuclear program.
Pressed by reporters on Friday as to whether he considered a limited initial strike against Iran, Trump said, "I guess I can say I am considering that."
Iran views all US "bases, facilities and assets" in the Middle East as legitimate targets in the event of a US attack, Iran's mission to the UN said on Thursday.
