US to continue strikes against Iran: Trump

The US will continue its military operation against Iran until "all our objectives are achieved", President Donald Trump said on Sunday evening.

Trump did not elaborate on those objectives except to describe them as "strong" in a video update posted on his social media platform. Trump did not address the severe disruption in crude and LNG traffic through the strait of Hormuz and the shutdown of key airport hubs across the Mideast Gulf after retaliatory attacks by Iran.

The US has lost three servicemembers since the joint US-Israeli attack on Iran began on Saturday "and sadly, there will likely be more before it ends", Trump said. "That's the way it is."

Trump again called on members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other uniformed personnel to lay down arms "and receive full immunity, or face certain death". Trump also called on "all Iranian patriots who yearn for freedom to seize this moment, to be brave, be bold, be heroic, and take back your country".

Trump earlier on Sunday had told The Atlantic magazine that Iran's new leadership has offered to hold talks with him in the wake of the US-Israeli strikes on the country, and he has agreed to do so. He did not mention the possible talks in his video update.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader since 1989, was killed in the attack on Saturday. A three-member leadership council, which includes Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian, has temporarily assumed the duties of the supreme leader. Israel's defense forces claim to have killed senior military leaders of Iran, including the defense minister and the head of the IRGC.
