Argus expects French wheat exports to non-EU destinations to fall to no more than 6mn t in 2026-27, as a result of poor wheat and corn crops and tight corn supplies in the global market.
France's disastrous corn crop, expected at only 6.9mn t in 2026-27, is set to push feed producers to switch to feed wheat as much as possible. The switch, coupled with smaller wheat crops on the year, would cap the country's wheat exports outside the EU. France exported 7.6mn t of wheat to non-EU buyers in 2025-26, customs data show. A heatwave and drought during the summer cut French wheat output and hit the country's corn crop during a key development stage.
Argus expects France to produce 30.8mn t of wheat, down by 2.5mn t and 7.6pc on the year, making up the 12.6mn t fall on the year in total EU wheat production.
