An unnamed tanker was struck by two unknown projectiles near the strait of Hormuz on 3 November, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported.

The incident occurred in the late hours of 3 November around 14 nautical miles (26km) northeast of Lima, Oman. The vessel's company security officer reported that two projectiles had struck the tanker's engine room.

No casualties or environmental damage have been reported. Authorities are investigating the incident.

UKMTO advised vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.

The attack marks the latest in a string of maritime security incidents near the strait of Hormuz, where two vessels were struck by unknown projectiles in separate attacks over the weekend.

The threat level in the strait of Hormuz remains "severe", according to a 1 November advisory from the Joint Maritime Information Centre (JMIC).
