Houston, 3 June (Argus) — Agrium is suspending engineering work on its $3bn Corn Belt greenfield nitrogen fertilizer project.
Instead, the company will focus on “attempting to secure a strategic partner and a gas contract for the project,” which could be built in an undisclosed location.
The future plant will have production capacity of about 1.98mn st/yr (1.8mn t/yr) of nitrogen fertilizer products.
Agrium is still considering brownfield expansions at its Redwater, Alberta, and Borger, Texas, facilities, with a decision on Borger expected in the second half of 2013. Expansions will increase urea production by a combined 0.77mn st/yr.
Borger's installed ammonia and urea capacities are currently 0.54mn st/yr and about 0.11 st/yr of product, respectively.
