Detroit-based utility DTE Energy yesterday dedicated its 112MW Echo Wind Park in Huron County, Michigan, after the park began commercial operations.

Echo Wind Park is DTE's fourth wind farm. The utility also owns and operates the 110MW Thumb Wind Park and nearly half of the 213MW Gratiot County Wind Project, both of which began operations in 2012. DTE also owns and operates the 75MW Brookfield Wind Park, which came on line this year. All of these facilities are in Huron County.

DTE Energy also plans to buy the output of Heritage Sustainable Energy's 20MW Big Turtle Wind Farm, which it expects to open this year.

The utility expects to add nearly 1GW of renewable energy by 2015, sufficient to meet Michigan's renewable portfolio standard target of 10pc of retail electricity sales. With the addition of the Echo Wind Park, the utility has 9.6pc of its retail sales coming from renewables.

The company anticipates that 95pc of its renewable energy sales will come from wind energy by 2015.
