Midstream operator Enbridge Energy said it has cut positions in its US gas pipelines and processing business unit, with many of the jobs coming from Houston.

Enbridge laid off less than 100 workers in Houston and in some field offices as part of a broader cost-cutting effort, the company told Argus. The gas pipeline and processing business includes Enbridge's interests in the US portion of the Alliance Pipeline, which moves Canadian natural gas to market, Vector Pipeline, transmission and gathering pipelines in the Gulf of Mexico and in gas processing facilities.

The job cuts come as a plunge in global crude prices has oil field service providers cutting jobs and other parts of the industry expecting the same. Schlumberger said earlier this month is was cutting jobs. Yesterday Halliburton said it would cut 1,000 jobs outside of North America.

The Greater Houston Partnership, a regional business group, expects more job cuts throughout the Houston energy industry in 2015. The region added about 120,000 new jobs in 2014, but is expected to add 62,900 jobs in 2015.
