  • Market: Металлы, Производство батарей

Europe is rapidly expanding its battery materials supply chain, with 355 GWhe of cathode active material (CAM) capacity planned by 2030. This buildout is intended to support growing battery production and the accelerating demand driven by electric vehicles and the energy transition.

However, ownership of this new capacity tells a different story. More than half of planned European CAM capacity is expected to be controlled by non-European companies, highlighting the important role of international investment and expertise in the region's battery materials sector.

Key highlights include:

  • 355 GWhe of CAM capacity is planned across Europe by 2030.
  • Over 50% of capacity will be owned by non-European companies.
  • Nickel-based CAM projects dominate planned capacity additions, while LFP remains limited.
  • Battery demand is expected to accelerate significantly through 2030.
  • A potential gap is emerging between future battery demand and CAM production capacity.
