Oxy Vinyl's ethylene dichloride (EDC) plant in La Porte, Texas reported a leak yesterday, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The leak developed in the EDC decommissioning sewer piping, resulting in the release of EDC carbon tetrachloride and chloroform. The unit was placed under vacuum, flushed with fresh water, and isolated from the chemical process.
