India's state-controlled HPCL will operate its revamped Mumbai refinery at full capacity this month, the company's chairman MK Surana said.

The refinery was shut in April for a maintenance turnaround and expansion work to enhance capacity to 190,000 b/d from 150,000 b/d. It is operating at 80pc and the new units were being tested, Surana said.

He added that the 166,000 b/d Visakhapatnam (Vizag) refinery is operating at more than its maximum capacity, taking combined refinery run rates to more than 100pc, and the project to expand its capacity to 300,000 b/d is on course for completion by March 2022.

There will not be any planned shutdown until then, he said.

HPCL's gross refining margin for the July-September quarter and for the first half of its financial year ending March 2022 were $2.44/bl and $2.87/bl, respectively.
