Indian listed bulk and drum bitumen prices have been raised in Mumbai in tandem with higher import prices and rising energy futures.

Prices for bulk and drum bitumen sold by Indian state-controlled refiners were increased by 2,210 rupees/t ($29/t) for the first half of this month. Ex-Mumbai prices of bulk VG10 were at Rs50,790/t and Rs51,090/t for VG30 bulk, while prices of VG10 and VG30 pack were at Rs58,090/t and Rs58,890/t respectively.

State-controlled refiners Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum operate 240,000 b/d and 190,000 b/d refineries in Mumbai respectively.

Refiners are maintaining refinery run rates and bitumen output despite sluggish consumption, which has persisted because of delays in government financing of road projects and unfavourable weather.

But some participants are concerned about potential supply shocks if bitumen vessels carrying Middle East-origin cargoes are unable to discharge in India on time because of issues arising over documentation of their supply origins. India is a key importer of Middle East cargoes.

Indian enquiries for Middle East-origin cargoes are unusually limited, according to sellers of such cargoes.

Iranian bulk bitumen prices were assessed by Argus at $428/t fob Iran for the week ended 25 February, close to a more than seven-year high. Drum prices were assessed at $460-480/t fob Iran.
