Indian private-sector producer JSW Steel lifted its output by 22pc on the year to 1.67mn t in August.
Average capacity utilisation stood at 87.4pc last month, down from 92pc during the same period last year because of a shortage of iron ore in Karnataka and Odisha, JSW Steel said.
Its production of flat-rolled products rose by 34pc on the year to 1.2mn t, while output of long-rolled products increased by 25pc to 375,000t.
JSW Ispat Special Products extended a maintenance shutdown at a blast furnace and other operations at its plant at Raigarh in Chhattisgarh state in July. JSW Steel received approval from the Competition Commission of India to merge JSW Ispat Special Products and domestic steel product manufacturer Creixent Special Steels with the company last month.
JSW Steel recently announced plans to set up scrap shredding facilities in India in a joint venture with New Zealand's metal recycler National Steel.
