US aircraft manufacturer Boeing said it will buy 1.7mn USG (5,200t) of neat sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced by Finnish refiner Neste to power its US commercial operations during 2023.
The SAF will be blended with jet fuel at a 30:70 ratio to produce a total of 5.6mn USG of blended SAF. The fuel will be supplied to Boeing by US fuel supplier Epic Fuels and Avfuel, and by private jet company Signature Aviation. This deal will more than double Boeing's SAF purchases from last year, Neste said. The manufacturer bought 7.5mn l of SAF from Epic fuels for use in operations from Washington and South Carolina last year. Boeing aims to deliver commercial aircraft ready to fly on 100pc SAF by 2030.
