Corrects gasoline demand in sixth paragraph of 7 June story.
US ethanol stockpiles rose alongside production on the week of 2 June, while implied gasoline demand and ethanol blending fell again, according to Energy Information Administration (EIA) data.
Total domestic ethanol inventories rose by 616,000 bl on the week to nearly 23mn bl. The Gulf coast led all gains on the week after rising by 608,000 bl to 4.4mn bl, while the West coast and midcontinent also rose by 81,000 bl and 71,000 bl to 2.4mn bl and 8.8mn bl, respectively. East coast stocks fell by 143,000 bl to 7mn bl.
Compared with the same week last year, stocks were down by 688,000 bl.
US ethanol production rose by 32,000 b/d to just over 1mn b/d. Gains were again principally posted by the midcontinent which rose by 32,000 b/d to 981,000 b/d.
Compared with the same week last year, production was down slightly by 3,000 b/d.
Implied gasoline demand climbed as ethanol blending fell. Implied gasoline demand rose by 120,000 b/d to 9.2mn b/d, while ethanol blending declined by 39,000 b/d to 887,000 b/d.
The new ethanol export statistic the EIA releases illustrated 97,000 b/d of ethanol were exported on the week of 2 June.
