Chile and the US have signed an initial agreement to facilitate technical assistance and information sharing to address the energy transition.

"It will enable new cooperation mechanisms, especially on technological interchange and green hydrogen," Chile's energy minister Diego Pardow said.

The agreement, signed by Pardow and US energy secretary Jennifer Granholm, covers research and development, decarbonization, grid modernization, hydrogen, the Net Zero World initiative, critical minerals and energy justice.

Annual meetings of senior officials from both countries are planned to supervise progress, address obstacles and identify new opportunities in these matters.

Pardow and Granholm's meeting took place during the 13th Energy Ministerial Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Seattle, Washington, when most member countries committed to reducing methane emissions in the fossil fuels sector.

Pardow's US trip continues with meetings at the California Energy Commission and University of California, Berkeley, to discuss Chile's energy agenda.

Chile's green hydrogen strategy seeks to make it a leading global exporter of the fuel by 2040 and is a key part of its commitment to being carbon neutral by 2050.
