Marine fuels supplier KPI Ocean Connect has successfully supplied bio-marine fuel to a vessel owned by Uni-Tankers in Amsterdam.
KPI Ocean Connect supplied 34,000l of a 30pc marine fatty acid methyl ester (fame) biofuel blend (B30) to the tanker M/T Alsia Swan, which has a deadweight of 5,700t.
Uni-Tankers also refuelled a ship with low-sulphur marine gasoil (LSMGO) at the same time, to measure the change in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). They measured a 42pc decrease in particulate matter and an 18pc reduction in CO2 emissions when using B30 rather than LSMGO when bunkering.
Northwest Europe operates an Emission Control Area where the maximum sulphur content in marine fuels is 0.1pc.
