Denmark-based renewable technology provider Topsoe has signed a deal with Australian developer Allied Green Ammonia to supply its technology for a planned green ammonia plant.

Topsoe's DynAMMO technology will be used at Allied's planned plant at Gove in Northern Territory, which is expected to start producing 2,500 t/d of ammonia by the end of 2028 or early 2029. Allied is intending to export green ammonia to southeast Asian markets to cater to growing demand for e-fuels. Topsoe's technology is projected to reduce about 1.4mn t/yr of carbon dioxide emissions compared with ammonia produced conventionally by natural gas, according to Allied.

Topsoe is also looking to supply Allied with an undisclosed quantity of its solid oxide electrolysis cells to produce green hydrogen, in combination with the ammonia technology, to further increase the energy efficiency of Allied's green ammonia production.

This will "lead to the lowest levelised cost of green ammonia production in Australia", said Allied managing director and founder Alfred Benedict.
