Brazil's secretariat of foreign trade started an anti-dumping investigation into steel sheet imports from Germany, Japan and the Netherlands.
The probe is expected to conclude within 18 months, the government said.
The investigation covers metallic sheet made of carbon steel, alloyed or non-alloyed, of any width, with a thickness of less than 0.5mm.
Steelmaker CSN, Brazil's sole producer of metallic sheet, filed the petition against foreign competition in October 2024.
At the time, the Brazilian government had recently imposed temporary anti-dumping measures on metallic sheet imports from China.
Metal sheet are primarily used in food packaging, paints and aerosol canisters. These products are sold directly to packaging manufacturers, end users and processors, according to the government.
