Canada-based mining company Lundin Mining reported higher copper and nickel output in the second quarter, while molybdenum output dropped on the year.

Lundin's copper production increased by 11.8pc on the year to 80,073t in the second quarter, bringing total copper output for the first half of the year to 156,847t, up by 3.9pc pc on the year.

Chile's Candelaria mine was the largest contributor in the second quarter, with output up by 18.7pc on the year to 36,999t because of increased throughput. Output reached 29,290t from Chile's Caserones mine, 11,274t from Brazil's Chapada mine and 2,510t from the US' Eagle mine.

The company remains on track to meet its copper production guidance of 303,000-330,000t in 2025.

Lundin sold its zinc and copper producing mines, Neves-Corvo in Portugal and Zinkgruvan in Sweden, to Swedish mining firm Boliden in December last year. The two mines were Lundin's only zinc-producing assets.

The company's nickel output increased by 57.6pc on the year to 2,713t, driven by operational recovery and improved throughput following ramp rehabilitation at the Eagle mine, despite some temporary setbacks including reduced equipment availability and a four-day power outage. Lundin's 2025 nickel production guidance is unchanged at 8,000-11,000t.

The Caserones mine also produced 380t of molybdenum in the second quarter, down by 46.8pc on the year because of lower-grade ore.
