Steelmaker US Steel confirmed to Argus today it was investing in a new grain-oriented electrical steel facility to be built at its Big River Steel complex in Osceola, Arkansas.
No details regarding the specific investment, timeline or capacity goals were revealed alongside the initial confirmation.
The investment is the latest in a string of spending projects US Steel and Nippon Steel have jointly rolled out in recent weeks as part of the companies' multi-year $11bn investment plan.
Details for the various projects have been slowly unveiled in different stages. Among a series of plant upgrades, expansions into direct reduced iron and slag recycling, the companies also committed to generally investing in premium steel products like electrical steel to support US Steel's long-term position in the US market.
