Americas Styrenics announced last week it will lower the price of all grades of US polystyrene by 4¢/lb effective 1 December.
The decrease will mark the fourth consecutive month of lower polystyrene prices.
While the company did not give a reason for the price reduction, it is likely based on lower prices for benzene in the US. December's contract price for benzene settled down by 48¢/USG to 337¢/USG – the largest decline all year.
In mid-November, assessed prices for crystal polystyrene and high-impact polystyrene stood at 158¢/lb and 169¢/lb, respectively, for delivery east of the Rockies.
