Chevron delays 2015 budget announcement

Chevron is delaying the announcement of its 2015 budget to early next year, the first time in at least five years it has not spelled out the following year's spending plans by December.

The delayed release comes amid a 40pc plunge in crude prices to five-year lows, which has prompted other producers to say they are cutting growth plans for 2015. Today BP became the latest to say that it is eyeing more spending cuts, following spending cuts from top independent ConocoPhillips, Bakken producer Continental Resources and Apache in recent weeks.

"Chevron is still in the process of reviewing and evaluating its capital and exploratory expenditure plans and will release its 2015 budget as soon as these plans are final, most likely in early 2015," the company said.

The hammering of crude markets since June is severely squeezing cash flows, forcing producers, big and small, to rework their investment and expansion plans. Almost all major banks and research houses have lowered their benchmark crude price forecasts for next year, muddying the outlook and making it difficult for companies to finalize their spending plans.

Since at least 2010 Chevron has announced its annual capital budget in December of the previous year.
