Activity in the US petrochemical industry showed a slight decline of 0.1pc in December versus November, based on a three-month moving average, according to the American Chemistry Council's monthly chemical activity barometer.
The barometer fell to 97.5 in December, from 97.6 in November, but remains up 3.7pc over last year's levels. The index measures production, stock prices, product prices and inventories across a range of chemical companies.
The slight decline in December came as production and equity prices were flat, product prices were down and inventories continued to build.
