Polish seaborne diesel imports rose slightly on the year in the first quarter of 2024, with more US product unloading at the country's ports than in all of 2023.

Vortexa data show overall Polish diesel imports at 1.21mn t in the January-March period, up from 1.14mn t in the same months of 2023 but lower by 7pc from the fourth quarter.

Direct US diesel arrivals to Poland's Baltic Sea ports were 481,300t in January-March, outpacing the 472,500t in all of 2023 according to Vortexa. State-owned Orlen most likely remained the biggest receiver of diesel from US in the first quarter, with market participants saying it unloaded 247,000t at the port of Gdansk.

Trading company Select Energy got 141,200t of US-origin diesel at the Baltic port of Swinoujscie for onward export to Ukraine. Polish trading firm Unimot imported at least two US cargoes of 73,700t for the domestic market and for delivery to Ukraine.

Arrivals of diesel from Sweden at the port of Gdynia were around 200,000t in the quarter. Arrivals from the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) hub amounted to 324,100t, down by 68,000t compared with the same period last year.

Premiums for US diesel supplies to Polish ports in March were between $17-20/t on a cif basis against cif ARA assessments, Polish traders said.
