France's Lavera refinery poised for 2Q maintenance

UK-Chinese venture Petroineos will shut its 207,100 b/d Lavera refinery on the French Mediterranean coast for 4-6 weeks of planned maintenance work during the second quarter.

The work will start in mid-April, according to several market participants. Petroineos declined to comment.

Lavera is a significant producer and domestic supplier of bitumen, along with other oil products.

The turnaround will follow a planned shutdown of the 1.2mn t/yr Asesa bitumen plant in Spain, which started in early March and is due to last until early April. It will also partially coincide with a turnaround at Algerian firm Sonatrach's 198,000 b/d Augusta refinery in Sicily, which began in late January and will run until the end of April.

Aesa and Augusta are both key Mediterranean bitumen production and export facilities.
