Flint Hills Resources reported an upset at a light olefins unit yesterday at its Port Arthur, Texas, facility, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
A quench oil basket vessel developed a leak. Operators made process adjustments to respond to the leak, and as a result, process gases were routed to the flare for two hours.
The incident resulted in emissions of benzene, ethylene, propane, propylene, toluene, and xylenes, among other products. Emissions are expected to continue through 1 May.
