Turkmen state-owned sulphur producer Turkmengas has sold 49,000t of sulphur on the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan.
The entire volume has been purchased at $6/t ex-works Galkynysh by Metalson and is for lifting within four months.
Other bids included $5/t ex-works for the whole 49,000t lot and $4/t for 10,000t, both for lifting within two months.
Turkmengas was originally targetting $17/t ex-works Galkynysh.
Sulphur produced in Turkmenistan is largely transported by rail to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas for onwards shipment overseas. Freight along this route is estimated at around $55/t and the above award price implies an Iranian fob price of $61/t. The latest business concluded on an Iran fob basis was at around $30/t.
