US rolled aluminum producer Arconic is in the process of returning temporarily idled North American facilities to normal capacity following Covid-19-related shutdowns it enacted in early April.
Arconic reopened its Massena, New York, cast house last week and is ramping up the Alcoa, Tennessee, rolling mill, which produces aluminum automotive body sheet, the company said today.
In addition to the temporary outages, Arconic also cut salaries, laid off employees, cut 2020 capital expenditures by 30pc and reduced capacity at other facilities to become more profitable in the face of softer demand caused by the pandemic.
Arconic expects its first quarter revenue to be off by 12pc from the same period a year earlier, driven primarily by "disruptions" from Covid-19 and the Boeing 737 MAX groundings.
